Join the Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP-MA) and the North American Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (NAC-SETAC) in a virtual discussion of the movie “Picture a Scientist” on March 9 from 7-9PM EST, in honor of International Women’s Day. Once you register for this event, you will get a link to watch the movie (also available on Netflix) on your own before March 9th.

On March 9th, we will have several special guests, including women environmental professionals and/or human resources professionals who focus on diversity. You will join breakout rooms facilitated by our special guests to discuss various topics, followed by a report-back to the whole group. Questions that may be discussed follow the Discussion Guide that will be provided to you once you register, and could include:  harassment/bullying/barriers; conforming to expectations; inequality/lack of inclusivity/underrepresentation; implicit bias; mentorship; how to move toward a culture of change.

“Picture a Scientist” is a feature-length documentary film chronicling the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. A biologist, a chemist and a geologist lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, overcoming brutal harassment, institutional discrimination, and years of subtle slights to revolutionize the culture of science. From cramped laboratories to spectacular field sites, we also encounter scientific luminaries who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
